The Tennessee Volunteers came on Saturday 6-0 against Tennessee Tech in their combined program history. In four of their last six meetings, Tennessee Tech hasn’t scored. And in all of these meetings, the Volunteer scored over 36 points.
The 2021 Tennessee team can add their name in both categories after Saturday’s game. And afterwards, some of the Tennessee players shared their reactions with the media.
Tennessee (2-1) defeated Tennessee Tech (0-3) Saturday afternoon at Neyland Stadium 56-0. Even though it wasn’t a game that had to be a challenge for the Flights, the timing of the game ultimately paid off. Tennessee needed a refresh after suffering their first loss in Week 2. In addition, the team secures a dominant victory before opening the SEC game against Florida next Saturday night. So a bad Golden Eagles team has arrived in Knoxville at the perfect place. Tennessee had their easiest test of the season to date between a loss and a road clash with a Top 15 Division rival.
The defense stole the show Saturday for Tennessee. After two consecutive games to start the season with no turnover, Flights have shifted into high gear in this department on Saturday. Tennessee recorded four interceptions against three different quarterbacks in the game. Additionally, one was fired for a touchdown by LB Solon Page III.
Some of the Tennessee players including Page, DB Jaylen McCollough, QB Hendon Hooker and WR Velus Jones Jr., spoke to the media after the match. The players spoke about their opponent on Saturday as well as their own game.
