Miami beats Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and USC for 5-star OL Francis Mauigoa

The Miami Hurricanes aim to build a college football contender in the near future. 5-star rookie offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa engaged against the Hurricanes on Monday. His commitment has helped Miami move up the recruiting class rankings as they now have the number 8 recruiting class in the nation.

Offensive linemen tend to be overlooked. Quarterbacks, wide receivers and running backs get a lot of attention when they announce their commitments. Arch Manning’s commitment to Texas has set the social media world ablaze. But offensive linemen are critical to a team’s success. They are the ones providing the protection so that these other players can succeed.

However, Mauigoa has certainly not been overlooked by college coaches. The 5-star rookie had a number of offers but ultimately opted for Miami. The new Hurricanes star has commented on his decision, according to

“I’m very close to the Miami staff because I was close to them when they were at Oregon,” Mauigoa said. “I developed a great relationship with coach Cristobal and coach Mirabal (OL coach) and I spoke to them all the time. “The whole staff recruited me a lot, there was no not just them. I feel like someone from the staff would contact me every day and I have a really high comfort level at school too.

Francis Mauigoa ended his thoughts by revealing some of the people who inspired him to get involved in Miami.

“Coach Cristobal is a former OL coach and I like that. Having a strong offensive line has always been important to him and it’s something he emphasizes. Plus I also have my guy Jaleel Skinner (former IMG teammate) and I always have a great time on campus in Miami and feel at home. I got very comfortable in Florida so I love the versatile fit.
